Both lines are aluminum, with two hand brakes and a freewheel on every pedal model, and Prevelo publishes its weights without pedals, so the weights below are compared without pedals. The differences sit in price, in the chain cover on the single-speed Biky models, and in the brakes and gear count on the geared models. Biky keeps its prices down by selling direct, with no stores and no dealer network, while building every Air on a 6061-T6 aluminum frame with Tektro brakes. On the day we checked, every Prevelo Alpha was on sale; the sale price is shown next to the regular price.

12 inch balance bike: Biky Air 12 vs Prevelo Alpha Zero

The Biky Air 12 costs $229 against $259 for the Prevelo Alpha Zero at its regular price; the Alpha Zero was on sale for $209 on the day we checked. Both have an aluminum frame and a rear hand brake. By the published figures the Alpha Zero is 6.8 lb and the Air 12 is 7.2 lb. The Air 12 fits riders 31 to 41 in tall with a 13.5 to 17 in inseam; Prevelo publishes an inseam range of 12.5 to 16.5 in.

14 inch: Biky Air 14 vs Prevelo Alpha One

The Biky Air 14 costs $399 against $489 for the Prevelo Alpha One at its regular price; the Alpha One was on sale for $449 on the day we checked. Both have two hand brakes and a freewheel, no coaster brake. Without pedals, the Alpha One is 11.3 lb as published and the Air 14 is 11.6 lb on Biky's scale, 0.3 lb apart. 16 inch: Biky Air 16 vs Prevelo Alpha Two

The Biky Air 16 costs $399 against $509 for the Prevelo Alpha Two at its regular price; the Alpha Two was on sale for $459 on the day we checked. Both have two hand brakes and a freewheel. The two are in the same weight class: without pedals, the Alpha Two is 12.1 lb as published and the Air 16 is 12.3 lb on Biky's scale. The Air 16 has a full Hebie Chainglider cover.

20 inch with gears: Biky Air 20 S7 vs Prevelo Alpha Three

The Biky Air 20 S7 costs $589 against $759 for the Prevelo Alpha Three at its regular price; the Alpha Three was on sale for $679 on the day we checked. Without pedals, the Air 20 S7 is 16.3 lb and the Alpha Three is 16.9 lb as published, 0.6 lb apart. The Prevelo has 8 gears and hydraulic disc brakes; the Biky has 7 gears with a gear indicator and two Tektro rim brakes on short-reach levers. For flat streets Biky also makes the single-speed Air 20 at $499 and 14.2 lb with pedals; Prevelo does not make a single-speed 20 inch bike.

24 inch: Biky Air 24 S7 vs Prevelo Alpha Four

The Biky Air 24 S7 costs $699 against $799 for the Prevelo Alpha Four at its regular price; the Alpha Four was on sale for $719 on the day we checked. Without pedals, the Air 24 S7 is 18.6 lb and the Alpha Four is 19.2 lb as published, 0.6 lb apart. The Prevelo has 8 gears and hydraulic disc brakes; the Biky has 7 gears with a gear indicator and two Tektro rim brakes. The Air 24 S7 lists a rider height range of 49 to 58 in; Prevelo publishes an inseam range of 23 to 28 in.

Service

What the table cannot show is service. Biky is a small team in Southern California. On weekdays between 9 am and 5 pm Pacific time we answer email and text messages within an hour; evenings, weekends and holidays within 24 hours. Closed on Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day.
